UPIS Internship AY 2021-2022

METAS Laboratory hosted two SHS students from the University of the Philippines Integrated School last February 14-24. Julia Del Valle and Roczanne Dela Cruz are Grade 12 students from the Applied Science and Engineering Track. Dr. Marie Christine Obusan and Ms. Jamaica Caras prepared modules and virtual laboratory activities for the interns to learn and practice microbial techniques.

  • Identification and characterization of bacteria isolated from milkfish gut and the polluted waters of Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System (MMORS)
  • Identification and characterization of bacteria from a hotspring in Laguna
  • Identification and characterization of fungi isolated from a hotspring in Laguna
 
Graduate Thesis
  • Determination of industrially important characteristics of microbes isolated from earthworm gut (production of growth promoting substances, enzymes, antimicrobial compounds, N-fixation and P-solubilization activities)
  • Isolation and characterization of microbial endophytes from the forest canopy of Mt. Makiling for industrial and agricultural applications
